L.A. & Ventura Counties on Fire Watch this Weekend
LOS ANGELES (KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO) -- A fire weather watch has been declared from mid-day Sunday until Monday evening for portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, due to the possibility of high winds and very low humidities. And similar measures will also be in effect across most other parts of Southern California, because of a surface high pressure system that's expected to build over the region during the weekend.
The National Weather Service says that system has the potential for producing strong offshore winds and very dry conditions over much of Southern California.
On Sunday gusty northeast winds are possible through the Simi Valley, Malibu Corridor. Winds 25 to 35 mph are possible through and adjacent to the corridor wirth potential for gusts above 45 mph in the adjacent foothills and mountains.
At the same time very dry conditions are expected to develop and a period of critically low humidities are possible. The Weather Service says the strongest winds and driest conditions may not occur until Monday.
Areas affected by the fire watch in L.A. and Ventura counties include the Ventura County Mountains, Los Padres National Forest, Los Angeles County mountain areas and the Angeles National Forest.
