PASADENA, CA (KNX) -- The Pasadena Board of Education has voted to replace school superintendent, Percy Clark Junior, who was recently accused of plagiarizing portions of a newspaper opinion piece.
If replacement is found Clark may retire from the district even before his contract expires in July 2007, says the school board.
Pasadena district benefited from higher test scores and some popular new programs during Clark's tenure. However, critics complained he failed to entice middle-class and white students back to the district. Teacher's union leaders have called him a bad manager and recently drafted a no-confidence resolution.
Clark was also accused earlier this month of plagiarizing portions of a column he wrote for the Pasadena Weekly.
Pasadena Weekly stated in an interview with board member Bill Bibbiani, all in all, "it’s an embarrassing mistake."
"Some of the phrases had been lifted from a 1991 speech by the Rev. Patrick O’Neill," stated Pasadena Weekly.
