Lawsuit Challenges Queen Mary's Marilyn Monroe Exhibit

LOS ANGELES, CA (KNX)  -- A lawsuit has been filed by a Los Angeles law firm against the organizers of the Queen Mary's Marilyn Monroe memorabilia exhibit, claiming she had no connection to many of the items in the exhibit.

Thousands of people have paid $22.95 each to see such items as hair rollers, suitcases, a lipstick holder and a "red shiny dress'' Monroe supposedly owned.

But the lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court claims that Monroe had nothing to do with many of the items. It contends some were made after she died from a sleeping-pill overdose in August 1962.

Ernest Cunningham, author of "The Ultimate Marilyn,'' and Emily Sadjady are the two exhibit attendees that filed the lawsuit. They seek to force the Queen Mary and exhibit organizers to refund admission fees and asks for unspecified punitive damages.

The Press-Telegram reported that the defendants included, the RMS Foundation Inc., which operates the Queen Mary; Robert Otto, the exhibit's curator; and Mark A. Roesler, CEO of CMG Worldwide, which manages the estate of Marilyn Monroe.

According to the Press-Telegram, Otto "knew when he purchased the items he displayed in the Exhibit, that the items were fake and did not personally belong to Marilyn Monroe.''

Chicago collector Robert Otto, has insisted the items are authentic.

The Marilyn Monroe memorabilia exhibit opened November 11.
