LOS ANGELES (KNX1070 NEWSRADIO) -- A naked man who climbed a cross on top of a mid-Wilshire church threatening to jump, keept firefighters and police at bay for nearly seven hours Sunday, before coming down.
Members of the police Special Weapons and Tatics team climbed a rickety ladder propped against the church cross, meeting the man halfway. The man was taken into custody and would likely be placed in a pscychiatric hospital for observation.
The man climbed the cross on top of the roof of the two-story West Central Presbyterian Church on Ninth Street around 8 a.m., forcing the closure of La Brea Avenue between Wilshire and Olympic boulevards.
