Nagin Promises Fence Mending After Re-Election as N.O. Mayor

NEW ORLEANS, LA (KNX)  -- Newly re-elected New Orleans mayor has set out to mend fences following a bitter and hotly contested race.

One day after defeating New Orleans Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu in a run-off, Ray Nagin said he plans to reach out to every segment of his community.

Nagin says he he reiterated his desire to work together to rebuild the city when he spoke with President Bush and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco.

Nagin told constituents that Mr. Bush had told him he\'d rather finish the rebuilding process with the maybe because the two men had weathered Hurricane Katrina together.

The mayor says debris removal and housing are his top priorities and he plans to put together a commission, including some former political rivals, to decide on action in the next 100 days.
