People Were Hanging From Window as Fire Raged

LOS ANGELES (KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO)  -- Los Angeles County firefighters rescued 13 people from a second-floor apartment fire in South Los Angeles early Saturday morning, and nobody was injured in the incident.

County Fire Inspector Darryl Jacobs said smoke and flames were pouring out and people could be seen hanging from the window of the second-floor apartment at Central Avenue and 68th Street at 8:06 a.m., when firefighters arrived.

Under the command of Battalion Chief Van Mark Madrigal, the fire was fully knocked out within sixteen minutes. Thirteen people were rescued by ladder without injury, Jacobs said. And two other people who'd been trapped in the building were brought out through the entrance.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. But Jacobs said it may have involved an electrical connection to a dryer.
