BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala (AP) -- Authorities are searching Alabama's coastal waters for the bodies of four children after police say they were thrown off a bridge by their father.
Police say the Irvington man confessed last night to driving to the Dauphin Island bridge, stopping and tossing the youngsters off. The bridge is as high as 80 feet above the water in places.
The children ranged in age from four months to 3 years old. Police say the suspect is the biological father of three of the children and raised the fourth from infancy.
Police say the man reported the children missing Monday, saying a woman who had the children failed to return them to him.
He's being held in a Mobile jail and faces four counts of capital murder.
At least three boats are being used in the search.
