LOS ANGELES (KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO)--Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa walked a group of children to Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary in Watts Wednesday morning to mark the beginning of the Walking School Bus Program.
The program uses parents and other volunteers to walk kids from designated sports to school. The idea is to protect children on their way to school from gang violence and other dangers. Several children have been killed and injured in suspected acts of gang violence recently.
