LOS ANGELES (CBS) -- Four people were dead following two shootings that occurred within 20 minutes of each other and blocks apart in East Los Angeles Monday. Authorities were unsure whether the attacks were related.
Two victims were killed in each attack, according to sheriff's deputies.
"We are trying to determine if the the shootings are related," said Lt. Henry Saucedo of the sheriff's station in East Los Angeles, though deputies at both crime scenes did not believe they were.
One shooting, reported at 1:20 p.m., occurred in the 5100 block of East Olympic Boulevard, according to a sheriff's department statement.
The suspects from this location, Jesse's Auto Sales, also stole two vehicles. One was a gray four-door 2000 Jeep Cherokee with the license plate 4LVE195 and the other was a four-door 2001 Dodge with the license 7Z41469.
While this crime was believed to be a carjacking, it was unclear if the victims were salesmen.
The other attack, reported at 1:37 p.m., happened at a home in the 1200 block of South Herbert Avenue, according to the statement. It appears this shooting was gang-related.
All of the victims are Latino men, according to sheriff's deputies.
