Long Beach opponents of Proposition 8 will be taking to the streets today. An e-mail sent out Thursday urged residents to meet at Redondo Avenue and Broadway shortly before 7 p.m. The march will then proceed to Hamburger Mary's near Alamitos Avenue and Broadway.
Proposition 8, which bans gay marriage in the California State Constitution, has spurred a flurry of protests already. On Wednesday, several thousand protesters gathered in West Hollywood and marched along Hollywood Boulevard. Although there were minor skirmishes and several arrests, the demonstration was mostly peaceful.
City officials and protest organizers were unavailable for comment.
