CARSON (KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO) -- Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is set to headline a big rally in Carson this afternoon followed by a fundraiser in Costa Mesa, as she tried to build on what most observers considered a solid performance in her Thursday debate against Democratic rival Joe Biden.
The Alaska governor is scheduled to speak for about a half-hour at The Home Depot Center's tennis stadium. Party officials say she'll focus on her political message and her work as a government reformer -- along with her personal history as a wife and mother with a challenging professional career.
The major party presidential and vice presidential candidates rarely make public appearances in California during the general election campaign, because it is considered a safe Democratic state and the prefer to concentrate their resources on so-called battleground states. So when they do come here, it's usually only to raise money.
Following today's events in Carson and Costa Mesa, Palin will also attend a fundraiser in the Bay Area on Sunday.
All tickets for the Carson event were made available for free, and were grabbed up quickly.
This is Palin's first to Southern California since John McCain announced on August 29th that he'd chosen her as his running mate. Rick Gorka, a McCain- Palin campaign regional communications director, said Palin has generated a tremendous amount of support in Southern California is very excited to come to the region.
