LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Yanira Lozano and her boyfriend, Florentino Robert Rodriguez, have been arrested on suspicion of child abuse in connection with her 2 1/2-year- old son, who had been missing, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police were searching for 24-year-old Yanira Lozano, who was wanted for questioning in regard to recent injuries to her 6-year-old son, Lt. Vince Neglia of the Los Angeles Police Department's Juvenile Division said.
The injuries to the 6-year-old were reported several days ago when the boy went with Lozano to see her mother, who had been estranged from Lozano for years and had never met her grandson, Neglia said.
Lozano left the child with her mother, who noticed several unexplained injuries. The injuries, while not severe, appeared recent.
"It was nothing as serious as a broken bone," Neglia said. "They were injuries that could be consistent with child abuse."
The next day, Rodriguez returned to Lozano's mother's home with makeshift documents indicating custody of the 6-year-old and convinced Lozano's mother to take care of the boy, Neglia said.
Lozano is the boy's biological mother, but it was not clear if Rodriguez is the biological father, Neglia said. The child has since been released to relatives and is doing fine.
Lozano and Rodriguez have recently been living with the 2 1/2-year-old sought by police in their vehicle on streets in the North Hills area, Neglia said.
The toddler's paternity was also unclear.
