LA School District Superintendent Takes Furlough Day
(KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO) - The head of the LA school district won't be at work today. Superintendent Ray Cortines is taking the first of four furlough days required for district officials over the next few months. He says it's only fair for him to share the pain of other school employees who are being forced to take unpaid days-off to help save money. The District faces a deficit that could hit $670,000,000, and Cortines says the furlough days are necessary to avoid deeper cuts that would have a direct impact on students.
