LA City Council To Debate Marijuana Dispensary Rules Today
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Los Angeles City Council will consider provisions to a proposed medical marijuana ordinance they have struggled with for two years.
Various council members have made suggestions for the ordinance they plan to review at their meeting Tuesday.
Among the possibilities are capping the number of dispensaries and creating a tax that could help boost the city's depleted coffers.
City officials are trying to come up with an ordinance that addresses medicinal marijuana and figure out if the ordinance is permissible under state law.
Hundreds of pot dispensaries have opened their doors in Los Angeles over the past couple of years.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley has said recently he will target any pot clinics engaging in over-the-counter sales.
