SANTA BARBARA (AP) -- A masked gunman who waved an American flag from a highway overpass in Southern California has surrendered to police after forcing a shutdown of the freeway for hours.
A KNBC-TV helicopter over the scene showed the man giving up to police at midmorning Monday.
Police Sgt. Lorenzo Duarte said earlier that the man, wearing a ski mask and brown fatigues, had the flag in one hand and the gun in the other when officers arrived on the overpass just after 7:10 a.m.
Duarte says the man appeared to have an anti-war sentiment.
