LOS ANGELES (CNS/KNX) -- Los Angeles police say a downtown commercial building gutted by fire housed an illegal drug farm.
Police spokesman Richard French says police Thursday morning found what appeared to be an indoor growing facility for an illegal drug operation. He could not immediately confirm whether the crop was marijuana or another drug.
Fire Capt. Steve Ruda says flames and heavy smoke were pouring through the roof when firefighters arrived at the one-story building shortly after 6:40 a.m.
It took 75 firefighters about 20 minutes to douse the blaze. Ruda says the roof collapsed and the 100-by-100-foot building was gutted. No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
