Threat of Mudslides Looms for Foothill Communities

LA CANADA/FLINTRIDGE (AP)  --
LINK: ADDRESSES TO BE EVACUATED

The latest Southern California rain storm has moved east and fire-scarred mountains above Los Angeles foothill communities have held.

Mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted for Sierra Madre, as well as residents of 541 homes in La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Acton, Soledad Canyon and Aliso Canyon. Only residents will be allowed to return to those areas, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The Interstate 5 and Interstate 15 mountain passes are open.

On Saturday, a river of mud and rock roared out of the Angeles National Forest burn area above La Canada Flintridge and damaged 43 homes.

Winter storm warnings are still in effect until 10 a.m.

There are no major flooding or mud flow problems and forecasters say there will be a drying out period with no rain for at least seven days.

In the San Bernardino Mountains, ski resorts Wednesday morning are reporting another 10 inches of snow and all eight schools within the Rim of the World School District in San Bernardino County have been closed.
