Calling In The Marines

LOS ANGELES (KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO)  -- A man bought what he thought was a dummy mortar round from an estate sale. He planned to sell the mortar, but when he couldn't find a buyer he turned to firefighters at the Huntington Beach fire station 48 on Heil Avenue and Springdale.

Firefighters evacuated from their station and called in the Orange County Bomb Squad. The evacuation has spread to 25 homes and businesses in the surrounding area.

The O.C. Bomb Squad, following what the Sheriff's Department calls standard procedure, called in technicians from the Marines to disarm 81 mm mortar round.

The Marines have dispatched from Camp Pendleton and are expected to arrive at the area around 3pm. Stay tuned to KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO to for more developments.
