LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The three water mains that ruptured today, one in a hilly area near Sherman Oaks and two in South Los Angles, causing street flooding, were fixed this afternoon.
By 4 p.m., the water mains were repaired, all streets reopened after flooding, and service restored to all the customers who went without service as a result of those breaks, said Gale Harris of the Department of Water and Power.

Water and mud flowed down residential streets after a pipe burst near the 13600 block of Mulholland Drive southeast of Sherman Oaks, and a sinkhole opened at the site of a rupture at Wall and East 83rd Streets, said Capt. John Sullivan of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The rupture near Mulholland was reported at 1:55 a.m. between Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Beverly Glen Boulevard, said LAFD Capt. Gail Manning. Flooding on private property was reported in the 2900 block of North Deep Canyon Drive, south of Mulholland, Sullivan said.

Nearby streets impacted by the rupture and the resultant flooding included Donington Place, Manning said.
The ruptures in South Los Angeles were reported after 2 a.m. The break that caused the sinkhole at Wall and East 83rd streets was reported at 2:07 a.m., Sullivan said.
Another rupture at South Van Ness and East Florence avenues forced street closures, according to an On Scene Video camera crew.
Firefighters and Department of Water and Power workers responded to the water main breaks, the latest in what has become a near-daily occurrence in Los Angeles. However, veteran interim DWP Chief S. David Freeman told Pat Morrison on Radio Station KPCC that such ruptures were actually fewer in number this month than in October 2008.
